The West Coast Avengers are characters from the New 52. The West Coast Avengers title was relaunched in September 2011 after the conclusion of the Ghostpoint storyline. The title was written by James Tynion IV and drawn by Tony Daniel.

The West Coast Avengers are formed by S.H.I.E.L.D. director Nick Fury as a S.H.I.E.L.D.-controlled answer to the original Avengers and is based in the Four Freedoms Plaza. The founding lineup of the team consists of Cable, Morph, Sersi, Inari, Dum Dum Dougan, Phoinex, Rocket Racer, and Pulsar, who don't have secret identites. Spider-Man is denied membership due to having a secret identity but is allowed to accompany the group as part of an effort to foster good relations between the WCA and the Avengers. The team goes on to defeat the Lava Men and there leader, Molto.

Following the bombing of the Four Freedoms Plaza during a press conference, Rocket Racer is killed while Sersi, Pulsar and Inari are hospitalised and comatose. This leads Cable to recruit Miles Morales, a re-programmed Sentinel and Coleen Wing to the team.

In May 2012, Marvel announced the cancellation of West Coast Avengers. The series concluded with issue 12 and the West Coast Avengers Annual in August 2012.

The Lava MenEdit

S.H.I.E.L.D.'s head of intelligence Nick Fury launches West Coast Avengers as a publicly-sponsored super-hero initiative. They are established to protect the Earth and restore faith in its government, using the Four Freedoms Plaza as their headquarters. This team includes Cable as their leader with Rocket Red, Sersi, Inari, Dum Dum Dougan, Pulsar, Morph and Phoinex. Their first mission is the Lava Men, advanced demon scouts of an underground race that were buried for millennia before their awakening. The Lava Men alert Molto, a fearsome mutated conqueror, to the surface world. He captures all of the WCA and announces his plans to destroy the surface world then harvest its resources for scrap. By learning to work as a team, they are able to neutralize Molto and defeat the Lava Men. Having completed their first mission successfully, Cable appeals to S.H.I.E.L.D. and they are finally given public support. More to be added....
